F. Qualizza: Sprawl City
The project "Sprawl City – New Centralities" is the final thesis of Francesco Qualizza at the IUAV Venice (2007). The sprawled city of Veneto region is a total system that is neither polycentric nor hierarchic. Mobility has a great importance in this kind of urbanised landscape, but still the current linear infrastructural connections are inadequate. This structure denies the concept of urban sprawl. The centrality as main attraction for the people has to order the flow of mobility. Through the connection of the new suburban railway system with a flexible, demand oriented bus network, an area-wide accessibility to public transit is guaranteed. The new suburban railway stops will form the new centralities.
